The Meade brothers founded their company PYC Construction, which builds Passivhaus standard homes – the fastest growing energy performance standard in the world. They started in the insulation and construction business in 1993 working out of converted farm buildings in Meifod near Welshpool.
PYC founders Ben and Jasper Meade are colleagues of Claus’ in the AECB trade organisation and helped supply him with airtightness and insulation materials – even doing the airtight test at his own home which was retrofitted to transform it into a low energy house.
PYC have just begun work on the 1.4 acre site bought from the Welsh Government which will be the first eco-manufacturing facility in Wales to build high specification energy efficient homes. Investment has come from the Welsh Economic Growth Fund and once completed 19 new jobs will be created.
They are very committed to using the correct eco-friendly materials and techniques and are very willing to train trades involved with their projects, passing on their knowledge to them as well as the interested public with talks and courses.
I think it is a fantastic development that a local business is moving into building Passivhaus properties in a specially designed factory. This is the future of building, getting everything designed beforehand and having a watertight building envelope within two weeks or so.”
This way buildings can be produced to much more exacting standards and the build time on site would be much quicker.
