Founder of Smart Energy Services, Claus Best, is recognised as an expert in his field with extensive knowledge and experience.
Claus has a background in the building trade were he gained his City & Guilds Carpentry & Joinery qualification in 1987.
Further qualifications include diplomas as Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA), Green Deal Advisors (GDA) and Retrofit Coordinator.
Claus became more seriously involved with retrofitting properties in 2009 when he was inspired by the talk of Andy Simmonds, CEO of AECB and architect in Hereford about the Passivhaus retrofit of his own house. So Claus decided ‘to up his game’ and push himself further to deal with retrofit projects.
Claus’s first project was the complete retrofit of Hay Tor in 2010, see Case Studies for details.
He decided to upgrade on the theory as well by completing a Retrofit Coordinator diploma at the Centre of Refurbishment Excellence (CoRE) in 2015, which he updated with the PAS2035 certification in 2019.
Claus prides himself on being a member of the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB), a network of individuals and businesses with a common aim of promoting low energy and sustainable buildings.
He is one of only ten members across Shropshire and being involved allows him to further develop and update his knowledge on sustainable building as builders, architects, designers, manufacturers, students, educators, housing associations and local authorities develop, share and promote best practice.
He is also part of campaigning groups in the retrofit sector to help people reduce their CO2 use and fuel bills. These include the Low Energy Building Database, Shrewsbury Green Doors project and the Super Homes project.
