About Claus Best

Founder of Smart Energy Services, Claus Best, is recognised as an expert in his field with extensive knowledge and experience.

Claus became more seriously involved in retrofitting properties seven years ago when he was inspired by a former colleague in Hereford to do something more than he currently was – to push himself further and try a bit harder.

He took it upon himself to dedicate his time to retrofitting buildings, completing a Retrofit Coordinator diploma course at the Centre of Refurbishment Excellence (CoRE) in 2015.

The course was run by experienced practitioners in the retrofitting sector, who passed on their knowledge with the latest developments in the field.

With training and practice Claus has now learnt all there is to know about the energy efficient and effective way to renovate older houses. His aim is to create more comfortable homes with lower energy costs for his customers.

His experience includes completely retrofitting his own home in Shropshire to a low energy home which you can read about here and working on several other houses, completing parts of a house or the whole project.

He has a background in the building trade for 25 years, gaining his City & Guilds carpentry qualification in 1986.

Further credentials include being a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor and Green Deal Advisors (DEA, GDA Dip.).

Claus prides himself on being a member of the The Association for Environment Conscious Building, a network of individuals and companies with a common aim of promoting sustainable building.

He is one of only ten members across Shropshire and being involved allows him to further develop and update his knowledge on sustainable building as builders, architects, designers, manufacturers, students, educators, housing associations and local authorities develop, share and promote best practice.

He is also part of campaigning groups in the retrofit sector to help people reduce their CO2 consumption and fuel bills.

This includes the Low Energy Building DatabaseShrewsbury Green Doors project and the SuperHomes project
